data availability layer

Definition

The part of a system responsible for guaranteeing that transaction data has been published where anyone can retrieve it. Without that guarantee, users cannot reconstruct a rollup's state or challenge an invalid one. Ethereum layer 1 is the data availability layer for Ethereum rollups today; some rollups post their data to an alternative layer instead.
