Definition

The first part of the Metropolis upgrade, activated in October 2017. It added cryptographic precompiles enabling zero-knowledge proofs, the REVERT opcode, and a status field in transaction receipts, and under EIP-649 it delayed the difficulty bomb by a year while reducing the block reward from 5 to 3 ETH.
